Commitment to Empowerment and Social Justice: A Graduate Training Program in Feminist Multicultural Counseling

The Graduate Training Program in Feminist Multicultural Counseling allows students to become immersed in both the relevant theories and practices of feminist multicultural counseling. The practicum counselors are selected from the fields of counseling, social work, counseling and clinical psychology. The program consists of a 2-hour weekly seminar, individual and group counseling experiences, programming, social justice outreach and activism both on and off campus. Counselors work within a framework which analyzes and incorporates issues of gender, sexual orientation, cultural influences, race and ethnicity, and discrepancies in power and privilege. Although this training program specializes in working with women’s issues, we also supervise male graduate students in a separate practicum which focuses on masculine socialization and the ways in which men can be social justice allies to marginalized groups.
