Individual Scholarships and Eligibility

Currently, we have the Simmons Family Foundation & Ashton Family Foundation Scholarship applications available for download.  These scholarships are for the Spring 2010 & Fall 2010 semesters.  The deadline for submission is December 2nd, 2009 at 3:00pm.  No late applications will be accepted.  Please click one of the links below to download an application.

Other scholarships will be available starting Feb 1st, 2010.  The  deadline for submission for these other scholarships is March 31st, 2010 at 3:00pm.

General Qualifications:

  1. Submit a complete application by 3:00 pm, March 31st, 2010
  2. Must have a 2.7 GPA;
  3. Be a resident of the state of Utah ;
  4. Be admitted to the University if Utah working on a BA/BS/BFA;(applies only to undergraduate students)
  5. Be admitted to a graduate program at the University of Utah ; (applies only to graduate students)
  6. Be a non-traditional student and/or a single parent;
  7. Be a matriculated student at the University of Utah .

 

Scholarship Packet must contain:

  1. A completed, signed WRC Scholarship;
  2. Completed Application Questions; Please type your response to the following requested information on a separate sheet of paper. Be concise and limit your responses to a total of two double spaced pages . Write a brief personal statement that includes the following:
      1. Academic, professional, and personal goals
      2. Reasons why you feel you are a viable candidate for this scholarship
      3. Scholarly or vocational accomplishments, honors, special awards, or recognition you have received.
      4. Community and school involvement; include leadership positions and/ or activities
      5. Personal barriers you have had to overcome to achieve your educational goals such as domestic violence.
  3. Official transcript mailed directly to the WRC; or an Official transcript in a sealed envelope from the transcript office. No emailed or student copies accepted !
  4. Copy of your FAFSA (or Student Aid Report) for 2009/2010.
  5. Two Letters of Recommendation - either mailed directly to the WRC or in a sealed envelope with your scholarship application, answering the following questions:
      1. How long and in what capacity do you know the applicant?
      2. What are the academic strengths and challenges of the applicant?
      3. Why do you consider the applicant particularly qualified for this scholarship?

 

CRITERIA AND DECISION DATES

Decisions will be based on financial need and academic promise. We can't predict the exact date of our announcements. In past years, awards have been announced in June or July.

Ashton Family Foundation

The Ashton Family Foundation scholarship was created to assist single-parents who are survivors of domestic violence.  The scholarship is $1,000 per semester and is for tuition only.  Graduate & Traditional aged student’s may apply.

GPA:     2.7

Additional QualificationsMust be a survivor of domestic violence

Herbert I. & Elsa B. Michael’s Foundation

The Herbert I. & Elsa B. Michael’s Foundation Scholarship for academic excellence was created to support the Women’s Resource Center’s goal of the recruitment and retention of first generation, ethnic minority women at the University Of Utah.  The scholarship is $1,000 per semester. Graduate & Traditional aged student’s may apply.

GPA:     3.2

Additional Qualifications:  (1) Must have completed freshman year; (2) Must be a woman belonging to an ethnic minority group;

Mary Cherry Moslander Roberts Scholarship

The Mary Cherry Moslander Roberts Scholarship was created to assist students who are pursing a post-bachelor’s degree.  This scholarship is for Graduate students only. The scholarship is $750 per semester. 

GPA:  2.7

Additional Qualifications:  Must be a graduate student

 

Pete and Arline Harman Trust Scholarship Fund

The Pete and Arline Harman Trust Scholarship Fund was created to assist non-traditional students with families in their educational pursuits.  The award amount varies from year to year but is usually around $2,000 per semester.  This scholarship is for tuition only.

GPA:  2.7

Additional Requirements:  Must be a non-traditional student;

The Simmons Family Foundation was created to assist single-parents who are seeking a degree at the University of Utah.  The scholarship is $2,000 per semester.  Graduate & Traditional students may apply.

Additional Requirements:  Must be a single parent who is the solve provider to a child;

Sorenson Legacy Foundation

The Sorenson Legacy Foundation was created to assist non-traditional students, single moms, and survivors of domestic violence.  Graduate & traditional students may apply.  The scholarship is $1,000 per semester. 

GPA:  2.7

Additional Requirements:  Must be one of the following:  non-traditional student, single parent, or survivor of domestic violence

 

Osher Re-entry Scholarship Foundation

The Osher Re-entry Scholarship Foundation is a partnership between the Women’s Resource Center and AOCE (Academic Outreach and Continuing Education) to assist non-traditional students at the University of Utah.  Undergraduate Students only. The scholarship amount ranges between $750-$1000 per semester.

GPA:  3.0

Additional Requirements: Must be between 25-50 years of age; Must have a gap of at least five years in your high school to college or college education; must be working toward your first bachelor’s degree
