Introduction

Generally, Elementary Education and Special Education majors are required to take the C-BASE Math test, English test and Writing Sample Essay, while the Secondary Education majors are only required to take the C-BASE Writing Sample Essay.

Cost

The cost of the C-BASE Math test, English test and Writing Sample Essay is $42.00.  The cost of the C-BASE Writing Sample Essay is $30.00.

Cancellations made before the registration deadline will receive the total fee refunded, less a $5.00 processing fee.  No Refund will be made after the registration deadline.

Schedule

The C-BASE is given about four times during the year on Saturday mornings.  Please contact the Testing Center to find out the exact test dates and registration deadlines.

To register, candidates must come to the Testing Center with photo-identification and payment before the registration deadline.  The Testing Center is located in Room 498 of the Student Services Building.  Acceptable forms of payment include cash, check and credit card.  There is an additional two-percent processing fee for all credit card payments.

Preparing

General information about the test is available on the publisher's C-BASE website.  This location also contains a link to download the C-BASE brochure which gives more detailed information.  This brochure is in P.D.F. format.  A free copy of a program that opens P.D.F. files can be downloaded from the Adobe Acrobat Reader website.

The Education Advising Center located in Room 226 of Milton Bennion Hall (MBH) also has sample question hand-outs.  The telephone number for that office is 801-581-7789.

The test is usually given in the Francis Armstrong Madsen Building (FAMB).  (Candidates are informed of the location when they register at the Testing Center.)  Room assignments are posted on the main doors the day of the test.

Candidates should arrive early with their yellow admission ticket, photo-identification, pens,  and number 2 pencils.  A simple four-function calculator is also permissible for those taking the Two-Subject & Essay C-BASE, but is not necessary.

The process of taking the Essay-Only C-BASE lasts just under an hour.  Candidates are given 40 minutes to write on an assigned topic.

The process of taking the Two-Subject & Essay C-BASE lasts a little over two hours.  Candidates are given 45 minutes to answer the 53 questions on the Math subject test, 45 minutes to answer the 41 questions on the English subject test, and 40 minutes to write an essay on an assigned topic.
