C-BASE
College Base Test
Introduction
The College BASE test was developed by the Assessment Resource Center (ARC) at the
University of Missouri. A number of the departments within the University of Utah's Graduate
School of Education require it for admission to their programs. Applicants should check with their program office to see which testing
option is required.
Generally, Elementary Education and Special Education majors are required to take the C-BASE Math test, English test and
Writing Sample Essay, while the Secondary Education majors are only required to take the C-BASE Writing Sample Essay.
Cost
The cost of the C-BASE Math test, English test and Writing Sample Essay is $42.00. The cost of the C-BASE
Writing Sample Essay is $30.00.
Cancellations made before the registration deadline will receive the total fee refunded, less a $5.00 processing fee.
No Refund will be made after the registration deadline.
Schedule
The C-BASE is given about four times during the year on Saturday mornings. Please
contact the Testing Center to find out the exact test dates and registration deadlines.
Registering
To register, candidates must come to the Testing Center with photo-identification and payment
before the registration deadline. The Testing Center is located in Room 498 of the Student Services Building. Acceptable forms of
payment include cash, check and credit card. There is an additional two-percent processing fee for all credit card payments.
Preparing
General information about the test is available on the publisher's
C-BASE
website. This location also contains a link to download the C-BASE
brochure which gives more detailed information. This brochure is in P.D.F. format. A free copy of a program that opens P.D.F. files can be downloaded from the Adobe Acrobat Reader website.
The Education Advising Center located

Taking the Test
The test is usually given in the Francis Armstrong Madsen Building (FAMB).
(Candidates are informed of the location when they register at the Testing Center.) Room assignments are posted on the main doors the day
of the test.
Candidates should arrive early with their yellow admission ticket, photo-identification,
pens, and number 2 pencils. A simple four-function calculator is also permissible for those taking the Two-Subject & Essay
C-BASE, but is not necessary.
The process of taking
the Essay-Only C-BASE lasts just under an hour. Candidates are given
40 minutes to write on an assigned topic.
The process of taking
the Two-Subject & Essay C-BASE lasts a little over two hours.
Candidates are given 45 minutes to answer the 53 questions on the Math
subject test, 45 minutes to answer the 41 questions on the English subject
test, and 40 minutes to write an essay on an assigned topic.
Scores
Scores arrive in about six weeks. Sometimes it takes a little
longer. All candidates receive an individualized report of their scores. The Education Department receives an individualized report of each
student and an institutional summary report.
