How do I get an official transcript?
See our Transcripts page for information on ordering transcripts.

What is the quickest way to get an official transcript?
Visit the Transcripts Division, second floor, Student Services Building, window #21.  You may obtain up to three copies while you wait by making a request in person at our office.

How long does it take to  process an official  transcript?
Processing time, not including mail delivery time:

  • 3-5 business days for regular processing
  • 7-10 business days for processing at the beginning of each semester
  • 7-10 business days for processing if you attended prior to 1979

You may also obtain up to three copies while you wait by making a request in person at our office.

My official  transcript hasn't reached its destination.  What can I do?

  • US postal service service currently takes 4-14 days for delivery; some institutions, such as universities or clearinghouses, may take up to 7 days before they can confirm receipt of a transcript.  Please send your request well in advance of any deadlines to insure a timely delivery.
  • If your name has changed since you last attended the University, inform your mailing destination of both your former and current name.
  • You may contact the Transcripts Division to confirm when and where the transcript was sent.

Will the classes I am currently taking be on my transcript?
The classes your are currently taking will only show on your transcript if one or more of your grades have been posted for that term.

What information is on my transcript?
A transcript includes a complete record of your student career at the University of Utah including class names, grades, GPA, and type of degree earned.  A transcript may also include awards received and special recognition such as Deans list or honor society membership.  A transcript does not display full social security numbers or year of birth.  A transcript will display transfer degrees and the number of credit hours accepted from other universities, but does not list grades or classes from other universities.

I repeated a class.  Why does it still appear on my transcript?

  • Check your DARS (Degree Audit Report) report to determine if the class is repeatable for credit.
  • If the class is not repeatable for credit, submit a "repeated class notification" through the Campus Information System.
  • The former class will still appear on your transcript; however, if the class was repeated at this institution there will be a a note on your transcript indicating that the class has been repeated and that the former grade is excluded from your GPA.  Any classes with this comment will not be calculated into your GPA.

Why can't I request a copy of my transcripts by phone or email?
By federal law, we cannot release your transcripts to you or a third party without your written consent.  E-mail is not a secure form of communication.  You should never give out any personal information, such as social security or credit card numbers, by e-mail.

Can I have someone pick up a transcript for me?
You may submit written authorization giving permission for a relative or friend to obtain a transcript. The statement should include the name of the friend or relative authorized to receive the transcript. The authorization must be presented in person or faxed to the Transcript Division. The individual obtaining the transcripts on your behalf must present picture identification.
