The University of Utah has had a chapter of the National Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi since 1922. The Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs serves as home for the chapter. Phi Kappa Phi recognizes and encourages superior scholarship in all academic disciplines. We invite members from the top 10% of seniors, the top 7.5% of juniors, and outstanding graduate students who must be nominated by their departments. We also have selection committees who pick faculty and staff to be initiated each year.
Phi Kappa Phi Graduate Fellowship
Every year, the National Office conducts a graduate fellowship competition providing 57 Fellowships of $5000 each and three at $15,000 each to members entering the first-year of graduate or professional study. Each chapter in Phi Kappa Phi may select one candidate. Since 1994, the University of Utah chapter has had 11 winners of the national competition.
The selected candidate also receives a $1,200 scholarship for being the Utah Chapter nominee, regardless of the outcome in the national competition. Applications may be printed in PDF format from the National Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi scheduling and awards page. The deadline to turn in the application will be February 3, 2010 to 206 Park Building, c/o Glenda VanWagenen, Student Affairs Vice President's Office.
