Parent and Family Orientation
As a parent or family member of a new University of Utah student, you provide an important role in supporting your student as he or she transitions to the U. We are proud to offer Parent and Family Orientation in conjunction with your student’s Overnight, One Day, or Outdoor Orientation Program. There is also an August Program primarily for families who are unable to visit the U during June and July.
At Parent and Family Orientation, you will meet and hear from numerous University representatives, be introduced to your student’s graduation requirements, explore campus opportunities for you and your student, and learn what to expect as your student begins this new chapter in his or her education. For a sample schedule, click here. Typically, Parent and Family Orientation will begin at approximately 8:30am and end at approximately 4:00pm. Note that exact schedule times and locations vary due to the date you attend.
The cost of Parent and Family Orientation was $20 per person for Fall 2009. This fee paid for food, materials, and staff costs. Cost is subject to change for Fall 2010. Please review our Refund Policy.

Reservation Information
Our hope is that you attend a Parent and Family Orientation in conjunction with your student's Orientation Program since there are sessions designed for both you and your student to attend together. We also understand that some families might have difficulty in scheduling a time for everyone to visit the U together. In this instance, we would encourage you to attend any Parent and Family Orientation that fits with your schedule, while your student attends his or her preferred Orientation Program.
It is important to note that Parent and Family Orientation Programs in conjunction with First-Year Overnight and Outdoor Orientation Programs occur on the student's second day.
Once you and your student discuss your options for attending our Orientation Programs, we encourage you to complete the reservation process together as a family. Please note that your student must sign up for an Orientation Program, and that you will sign up for an additional Parent and Family Orientation Program. Your student will login from our website to access the reservation system. We will begin accepting reservations for Overnight and Outdoor Programs 2010 on March 6, 2010 (as well as the Parent and Family Programs associated with these), and all other programs will become available on April 12, 2010.
