Undergraduate students are hired as SI leaders and assigned to a section of a course. Their responsibilities include attending the class, reviewing the reading and other course assignments, planning the SI sessions and conducting three one-hour sessions a week. The courses that have SI attached to them are selected based on their challenge to students, their size, and their key role as prerequisites or in fulfilling graduation requirements.
Experienced SI leaders are recruited and hired as SI supervisors although occasionally, the SI supervisor position may be open to outside applicatants. SI supervisors observe leaders in their SI sessions several times during a semester, give the leaders feedback on their teaching, act as a liaison between the leaders and the rest of the SI program and between the leaders and the academic department and faculty, recruit, interview, and hire SI leaders for the next year, and attend and participate in monthly staff meetings. SI Supervisors are part of a planning team that guides the entire Supplemental Instruction Program.
Hiring is primarily done in the spring, however a need for leaders and / or supervisors may arise at any time. If you wish to apply for one of these positions, please click on the following links to apply.
