Program Information
Study Site
Known for its university atmosphere, Oviedo is also the commercial, cultural, and monarchical center of the region of Asturias. It was one of the few cities able to ward off Moorish attacks and became the capital of the Kingdom of Asturias in 810. The geography of Northern Spain varies, from the spectacular Picos de Europa, a hiker’s paradise of rugged and chaotic beauty, to the sought-after beaches of San Sebastian. Local cave paintings, such as those at Altamira, represent civilization from 10,000 years past, while contemporary club culture is hopping just south of the cathedral of Oviedo. More information can be found at the Official National Tourism website.
