Program Information
Location
Participants will be based at the University of Wales, Swansea, only two minutes walk from the beach and a magnificent sandy bay. The University offers a well-rounded academic program with a healthy balance of courses in arts, social sciences, science and engineering.
Swansea is among the twenty largest cities in Britain. It is especially known for its Maritime Quarter, which has become a model for other European maritime developments. Just west of the city is the Gower Peninsula, an area renowned for its secluded bays, cliffs, valleys and sandy coves.
Fall Semester in Wales provides students with a unique opportunity for cultural immersion by including features which promote integration into the University of Wales and larger Swansea community.
The Internship
Optional internships are available in a variety of fields including broadcasting, business and marketing, health sciences, journalism, local government, and law. Placements in science and engineering can also be arranged on request.
The Homestay
Participants will stay with a British family during the initial two weeks of the program.
Class on British Politics and Society
At the outset of the program participants will enroll in an intensive three-week class to introduce them to the forces which have shaped Britain’s social and political development since 1945. Syllabus includes two to three field trips.
University of Wales Coursework
Students will register for an additional two to three classes from the University of Wales course catalog.
Credit
Participants can expect to earn 10-14 semester hours of transfer credit for the program, depending upon classes selected and subject to departmental approval. While it may be possible for students to arrange for credit to be awarded for the internship, this is not guaranteed.
Housing
At the completion of the home stay students will be housed in self-catering accommodations at the University of Wales Student Village at Hendrefolian.
