Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam
Vrije Universiteit (meaning Free University) was founded in 1880 by orthodox Protestants as a learning center free from state and church influences. Located in southwest Amsterdam 20 minutes from the city center with its cobblestones and concentric canals, Vrije University is one of the more reputable universities in the Netherlands. There are over 19,000 students at the university in 12 faculties.
