Program Information
Study Site
Copenhagen is a study in contrasts: Old World charm and the most modern public transportation; pedestrian-only walking streets and plazas with convenient access to movie theatres, clubs, and stores; a vibrant European metropolis of over 1.5 million people, yet a small town feel where you can meet your friends at a café. Danish Institute for Study Abroad (DIS) is an internationally renowned study abroad institution located in the very center of Copenhagen, giving you easy access to extensive educational resources. The DIS courses constantly take advantage of these resources to enhance your learning.
Curriculum
You can study for a summer, semester or year in a wide range of disciplines, focusing on European themes and issues. Courses are taught in English in the following subject areas:

Credit
Semester/Academic Year participants will take four or five courses per semester for 12-15 transfer credits. Summer Terms will offer 3-10 transfer credits depending on the program. Courses will be graded by DIS faculty and displayed on the U of U Summary of Transfer Credit. The International Center arranges course registration prior to departure and coordinates transferal of credits after the program.

Accommodation
You may choose to live with a Danish family, or with Danish and other international students in a student residential hall known as a kollegium. You will get to known the Danes better in a family, or students your own age better at the kollegium. With your host family, meals are provided, though you may have to cook your own lunch and an occasional dinner. In the kollegium you can cook your own meals or eat at the various cafes and restaurants around Copenhagen.
Faculty
Courses will be taught in English by Danish professors from universities including the University of Copenhagen, Copenhagen Business School, and Roskilde University.
Excursions
Each DIS program is defined by one or two core courses plus a set of course-related study tours in Denmark and Europe. Some of these include the Glyptotek Museum, the Danish Parliament, the Royal Danish Ballet, the Central Bank of Denmark, and the World Health Organization European Headquarters and sites throughout Europe including Prague, Russia, Berlin, Stockholm, Amsterdam, Brussels, Poland, Switzerland, and France. See individual program descriptions for information about study tours. Optional study tours to Russia, China, Turkey, and Italy are available for an additional fee.

Application Information
Eligibility Requirements
- Minimum junior status.
- Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.
- Minimum age of 18.
- Prerequisites for some courses.
Application Deadlines
Summer Term: March 15
Fall Semester: April 15
Spring Semester: October 15
Note: Since applicants are competing on an international level, course availability may be limited after the application deadline.
Application Process
- Students must submit a complete application, including a personal statement, two reference forms, and a photocopy of the first page of their passport. Applications are available in the International Center (Union 159).
- The application and $500 initial program payment should be presented or mailed to the Cashier's Window, 165 Student Services Building. (Please be sure to include your U of U ID number). The cashier will issue a receipt and stamp your application "Paid." Return the application materials to the International Center. All applications will be reviewed by the International Center staff to determine eligibility. Applicants will be notified by mail of their acceptance into the program.
- Additional materials, including a payment schedule and orientation information, will subsequently be mailed to all participants.
- If an applicant is determined ineligible for program participation the $500 payment will be refunded in full.

Pre-departure Orientation
Participants must attend pre-departure orientations held to provide program and cultural information. Participants will be contacted when these are arranged.

Financial Information
Estimated Program Cost
Summer Term: $3,950 – $8,530
Semester: $17,135
Year: $30,990
Includes: Registration, tuition and fees, free use of text books, study tours, accommodation, meals (with host family option), orientation program in Copenhagen, airport pick-up, and international health insurance.
Does Not Include: Airfare, passport, meals (with kollegium option), local transportation, optional excursions, independent travel.
Personal Expenses: DIS fees are comprehensive and students need only minimum spending money for personal expenses during the program.
Scholarships
Scholarships are available for U of U students to study on DIS programs. Scholarships
range from $500 - $3000.
Refund Policy
$200 is non-refundable. Refunds for withdrawal from the program will be determined by the International Center according to recoverability of incurred costs.
