Things to do before you arrive in Utah Be Admitted (Apply for Admission): Before you come to study, you will need to apply for Admission to the University of Utah. The International Admissions Office can help you with your application. You can apply online or download an application. To learn more about the University of Utah, contact the Office of Student Recruitment and High School Services. You can check your application status online! If you look on the Admission's home page, on the bottom left hand corner, you will find a new link for students to check their own application status. Or you can go directly to the status page by clicking here. However, due to the large volume of applications received, it could take up to three weeks for the received documents to be posted on the web. Download the Welcome letter: Housing: On-Campus student housing information can be found here. Go Global is an area in the Sage Point residence hall where people from all around the world and from the U.S. will live together and learn from each other about their cultures. Additional on-campus furnished apartments are available at Housing and Residential Education (HRE). http://www.housing.utah.edu/ All applications and room assignments are now done online. Check the list of Hotels and Motels near the University for some possible places to stay. You can get discounted rates on rooms at the University Guesthouse on campus. Airport Rides & Arrival Assistance: If you require assistance when you arrive such as a ride from the airport, help finding housing, opening a bank account etc... please see the following links and these student groups may be able to assist you.

They will help you with any problems. Take your passport, the checklist that the University of Utah sent you, your I-20 form, and your I-94 card (the white card that the immigration officer gave you at the port of entry), and go to room 410 Olpin Union Building. They will make copies of your documents and return the original documents to you. They will also help you get ready to begin school by giving you a checklist. Orientation: Attend the International Student Orientation for help on immigration regulations, obtaining health insurance, navigating the campus, registering for classes, and exploring Salt Lake City. It's REQUIRED, so sign up TODAY! Choose classes and register: If you haven't already registered for classes before you arrive, you will want to register as soon as you arrive. Detailed instructions are available to help you choose classes and register. Give us your new address: You will need to fill out a change-of-address card in the International Center, and we will update the information for you. Be sure to update your informationotherwise, the University will continue to send mail to your home country address. Each time you move, you need to notify the International Center within 10 days. Also, you will need to fill out a change of address form for the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services (formerly called INS). You can get the AR-11 form from the BCIS website or pick one up in our office. Please submit one copy of the AR-11 to our office and send the original to the address listed on the from. You have 10 days to update your address with the university and with BCIS. http://www.immigration.gov/graphics/formsfee/forms/index.htm Student ID card: As a University student, you can get a free Ucard (Student ID Card). You can use your Ucard to get free or discounted tickets to events on and off-campus. You can also use it as a free pass for UTA busses and light rail trains, and to check out materials from University libraries. Go to the Ucard office on the first floor of the Olpin Union building to get your Ucard. E-mail accounts: ll University students and scholars can get their own free University of Utah UMail account. You will need a University Network ID (uNID) to use any computers on campus. Phone Service: The U offers Utalk, a pre-paid domestic and international long distance calling service from any residence, office, cell phone, or off-campus phone. This service is available for everyone - you do not need to live in an on-campus residence to participate. Domestic rates are .05 cents a minute. International rates are very competitive. To learn more or sign up see: www.it.utah.edu/utalk/. Immunization Requirement: When you arrive, you will need to show proof that you meet the University Immunization Requirement. If necessary, you can get the required immunizations soon after you arrive here in Utah. Student Insurance: ALL international students are required to have medical insurance approved by the University Student Health Center. You may need to buy a new health plan or upgrade your existing plan. Please meet the deadline (three weeks after the semester begins) to avoid getting a hold on your record. The University's Student Health Service and several private companies offer discounted insurance plans for students. Social Security Card: Social Security cards are used for various identification purposes on campus and in the community. A U.S. Social Security number must be obtained in order for you to start your new job (and get paid!), get a driver’s license, and open a bank checking account. Financial Aid: We are sorry, but there is no financial aid through our University available for International Students. If you are a graduate student, you may contact your department to see if they will provide any assistance or scholarships.
