Salt Lake Valley is a rapidly growing community of over 900,000, with approximately 200,000 residents living in Salt Lake City proper. The City is named for the great lake of salt water, which lies to the west of the city. The lake is the second largest salt lake (and one of the most dense) in the world. From this you might imagine Salt Lake to be a desert. But it is not. In spring, summer and fall it is a green and beautiful tree lined community starting at the base of the Wasatch Mountains and spilling over into the valley and beyond, with many subdivisions to accommodate the new (and diverse) influx of people moving into the area.
Salt Lake City has a small town feeling of community, friendliness and safety, and yet offers the same amenities of a large metropolitan area. Concerts, opera, ballet, theatre, fine dining, museums, and for the sports minded every conceivable sport are all available here. Salt Lake City has a reputation of being a rather conservative community, which is true. But, as shown with the hugely successful 2002 Winter Olympic Games, it is a very welcoming community to people from all over the world. The spirit of international friendship exemplified by the Winter Olympics lives on.
