MENTORING PROGRAM

Mentors in the ILA have been carefully selected in order to provide the optimum experience for ILA students. Mentors will be paired with students based on surveys filled out by students at the start of the semester.

 

Mentors  are expected to do some of the following with the students:

  • Guide students in exploring a potential career path and in identifying appropriate academic goals and expectations.
  • Motivate students to achieve excellence in their academic and professional endeavors.
  • Create a successful learning and working relationship with students with caring and consideration.
  • Serve as a resource and referral contact for the student.
  • Provide insights and personal experiences on topic discussed in the Academy seminar.

 

Mentor and Student Interactions:

  • Email, telephone, and/or written correspondence
  • Face to face meeting at least 3 or 4 times during the semester, if possible
  • Attend a board meeting, conference, or other business related event together
  • Students may "shadow" the mentor during a work day
  • Attend campus or other related activity with the student/mentee
  • Mentors may Invite the student to their home for an event or meal
  • Mentors will direct students to websites, books, articles, or other resources that focus on their specific accomplishments or other endeavors
