Each year, nearly 200 new international students become a part of the U of U community. You can be their first point of contact with the University of Utah by becoming an Ambassador. Most of our Ambassadors are returning Study Abroad students, students who have a strong interest in learning about the world and international students who have been at the U at least one semester.
You can help these new international students feel welcomeand learn more about the world beyond the Wasatch Frontby signing up to be an Ambassador. Being an Ambassador will require a minimal investment of your time and you will gain leadership skills. Your interaction as a peer mentor will be a great benefit to a new international student.
We will pair each Ambassador with a group of international students via e-mail during the months before their arrival in Utah. You can offer advice and insights about living in Salt Lake and attending the U. You can also respond to any questions your international students might have about culture, how to register for classes and things to do here in Utah.

All international students must pass a language proficiency test to gain admission, so you will be able to communicate in English. If, however, you have interest or ability in a particular language, we will try to pair you with students with similar interests. This could be an opportunity for you to learn more about another language, culture, and country without leaving your home.
During International Student Orientation in late August, you will have the opportunity to meet your international friends face to face. We also provide a short training so you are prepared to help new students.
