INSTRUCTIONS FOR HIRING A WORK STUDY STUDENT
Obtain a Job Referral Notice (JRN):
In order to hire a work study student, the hiring department must have a Job Referral Notice (JRN). The purpose of the JRN is to notify the department and Human Resources that the student is authorized to work under work study. It also provides the student's award limit, the date that the student's award is effective, and when it expires.
To obtain a JRN, the hiring department must submit an online request to the work study coordinator. The coordinator will in turn verify the student's eligibility and award amount. If there are no problems, a JRN will be emailed to the hiring department using the contact information provided on the online request form.
If the department has a JRN that was authorized more than 30 days prior to the date of hire, another online request must be submitted.
Submit the PAN Form to Human Resources:
More detailed instructions on filling out the PAN form will be sent with the JRN. Please read the instructions carefully before completing the PAN form. If the PAN is filled out incorrectly, the student's wages will automatically be charged 100% to the hiring department under Account 54800. It's no longer necessary to submit the JRN to Human Resources. If you have any questions, please feel free to call the Work Study Coordinator at (801) 581-6581.
