FERPA  Financial Aid and Scholarships and Income Accounting and Student Loan Services

As of July 15, 2009

Due to recent legislation in regards to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), the offices of Financial Aid and Scholarships and Income Accounting and Student Loan Services are taking additional measures to secure your student information. This legislation encompasses the release of student information over the phone. To secure your information and more effectively address your inquiries; our offices will request additional information from you when contacting the Financial Aid and Scholarships office or Income Accounting and Student Loan Services by phone. This additional information will assist in verifying identity and allow us to give more specific information regarding the processing and delivery of your financial aid and scholarships, and financial/tuition information over the telephone. Detailed below is how we will verify identity over the telephone:

In the past, students could authorize the release of their financial aid and scholarship information to other individuals by completing the FERPA Release of Information form. This form has now been modified, allowing you to include yourself as an authorized individual and select a PIN electronically through the Campus Information System (CIS). When contacting the offices of Financial Aid and Scholarships and Income Accounting and Student Loan Services by phone, you (and any individuals listed on the FERPA Release of Information Form) will be required to provide this PIN to confirm your identity and allow us to give you more specific information over the phone. Without a Release of Information on file, no specific information about your financial aid and or tuition file will be released.

The FERPA Release of Information form can be completed through CIS by navigating to "Finance", then "FERPA Release Consent".  If for some reason you are unable to complete the form electronically, please contact the Financial Aid and Scholarships office for assistance.

Note: If you completed a FERPA release for other individuals prior to June 30,2009, and you want to complete a new release for yourself, you must re-list these individuals (if you want them to have continued access to your information) on the new release form. Also, by selecting “Do Not Release” under the Change Release Authorization link for your student profile through the Campus Information System (CIS), you can override our FERPA release to prevent us from giving you (and any individuals listed on the FERPA release) specific information over the phone. This release authorization can be changed instantly by you to allow for information to be released over the phone by clicking on “Release” through the same Change Release Authorization link. A student can adjust the Release Authorization at any time through CIS.
