Freshman Merit Scholarships:

Resident and Non-resident high school seniors who will be entering freshmen and who are applying for merit, leadership, and/or diversity scholarships must complete and submit the online Application for General (Freshman) Scholarships .

Resident Leadership
Available to:
Resident high school seniors who will be entering freshmen. Applicants must have a 3.0 or higher GPA and demonstrate outstanding leadership abilities, activity involvement, and achievements.
Application:
Use the online Application for General (Freshman) Scholarships and then fill out both the merit and leadership portions of the application. Also, students must also submit an online University of Utah Recommendation Form along with a one-page essay, in which students illustrate their most significant leadership challenge and how they met it.

Value:
Resident tuition up to 18 credit hours (not including fees) awarded for two semesters, renewable the second year for $1,000 provided the recipient maintains a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.
Number of Awards:
50 or more, depending on available funds.
Deadline:
The admissions process must be completed and the appropriate scholarship applications must be submitted by February 1.
Non-Resident Leadership
General:
Nonresident high school seniors who will be entering freshmen, and who are applying for merit and/or leadership and/or diversity scholarships, please complete and submit the online Application for General (Freshman) Scholarships .
Available to:
Nonresident high school seniors who will be entering freshmen with outstanding leadership abilities, activities, and achievements, and a 3.0 or higher GPA.
Application:
The admissions process must be complete along with the online Application for General (Freshman) Scholarships and the online University of Utah Recommendation form with a one-page essay, in which you illustrate your most significant leadership challenge and how you met it must be submitted by February 1.

General:
The Financial Aid and Scholarships Office offers full tuition waivers and cash stipends to diversity applicants. These scholarships are funded by both the University and private donors.
Use the online Application for General (Freshman) Scholarships, and fill out both merit and leadership portions of the application. Also, submit an online University of Utah Recommendation Form along with a one-page essay, in which you illustrate your geographical, ethnic and/or cultural background, and how it will contribute to an educationally diverse experience for students at the University of Utah at large.

The admissions process must be complete and the online Application for General (Freshman) Scholarships , the online University of Utah Recommendation Form, and a one-page essay, in which you illustrate your geographical, ethnic and/or cultural background, and how it will contribute to an educationally diverse experience for students at the University of Utah at large must be submitted by February 1.

Scholarships Offered by Colleges and Departments :
Resident College & Department
Available to:
Outstanding Utah resident entering freshman students who have declared a major. Also available to transfer and continuing University of Utah resident undergraduate students who are eligible for resident tuition, who have declared a major, and who are nominated by their departments.
Application:
Apply directly to the department of your major. Unless instructed otherwise, submit the Application for Departmental Scholarships, college transcripts, and three letters of recommendation directly to the department by the appropriate application deadline.

Resident tuition for two semesters.
Deadline:
Refer to individual departmental listings for special application requirements and deadlines (which vary between January and March).
Note:
Students may receive only one tuition waiver scholarship sponsored by the University of Utah. If you are awarded more than one such scholarship, you must indicate a preference for one and decline all others.
Non-Resident College & Department
General:
No departmental tuition waivers are available to nonresident students. However, some departments may consider nonresident students for cash scholarships. Please check individual college/department listings. See below links.

Freshman Need and Other Scholarships:
Some scholarships are available to students who qualify on the basis of need as determined by the Federal Processor. Entering freshmen, transfer, and continuing students (Utah resident or nonresident), may apply for these scholarships by submitting the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) over the Web at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Also, complete and submit the online Application for Scholarships Based on Financial Need to the University of Utah Financial Aid and Scholarships Office.
Scholarships in this section have special requirements and different deadlines. All qualified students are encouraged to apply.
