The Department of Communication offers a number of departmental scholarships. Refer to the Scholarships Offered by Colleges and Departments heading at the beginning of this section for application instructions.

Application:

Obtain an application form from the departmental websiteSubmit with that completed form an up-to-date copy of your University of Utah transcript and one letter of recommendation. Ask a professor who knows your academic work to send a confidential letter of recommendation to the Communication Scholarships Committee (at LNCO 2400).

Deadline:

Feburary 1.  Late applications will not be accepted.  Incomplete applications will not be considered.

The Department of English offers the Snow-Angleman Scholarship to entering freshmen. Refer to the Scholarships Offered by Colleges and Departments heading at the beginning of this section for application instructions. The deadline for the Snow-Angleman Scholarship is February 1.

The Department of English also offers a number of full tuition Continuing Departmental Scholarships as well as various awards offered to students who are currently attending the University of Utah as English majors.

Students interested in applying for any of these scholarships should contact the department for application materials. The number of scholarships awarded varies from year to year. The deadline for all continuing student applications is March 1.(Return toTop of Page)

The Department of History offers scholarships to entering freshmen and transfer students who intend to major in history, and to currently enrolled history majors.

High school seniors should submit to the department the Application for Departmental Scholarships, a copy of their latest high school transcript, and three letters of recommendation from high school teachers, one of which must be from a history teacher.

Transfer and currently enrolled students with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher should submit to the department theApplication for Departmental Scholarships, a copy of their college transcript, and three letters of recommendation from history professors. The Department of Languages and Literature offers one-year tuition waiver scholarships to outstanding, resident first-year, continuing and transfer students, who have or intend to declare and complete a major in the department.

Applicants should obtain the Application for Departmental Scholarships from the department office or download it from the department’s Web site. This application requires that entering first-year students submit a copy of their high school transcripts showing grades through the fall semester of their senior year and three letters of recommendation, at least one of which must be from a foreign language teacher.

Transfer and continuing students are required to submit a copy of the college transcript showing grades through the most recently completed term and three letters of recommendation from university professors, at least two of which must be from language instructors, preferably professors.
