Transfer Merit Scholarships

Resident transfer Student Merit

Available to:

Resident transfer students with a cumulative GPA of 3.8 or higher who have completed a Utah two-year college program or its equivalent (in quarter or semester hours). Recipients are chosen by committee. Residents who have completed a two-year program in a non-Utah school will be considered for scholarships on a case-by-case basis depending on fund availability.

Application:

Complete the University of Utah admissions process and submit the online Application for Transfer Student Scholarships before April 1.

Value:

Resident tuition (fees not included) awarded for a maximum of four semesters or until the student receives a baccalaureate degree, whichever comes first. Tuition up to and including 18 hours per semester is covered.

Renewal:

Recipients must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.7 and complete 24 hours of course work (20 of which must be graded) during their first two semesters. Grades are reviewed after the second semester.

Deadline:

The admissions process must be completed and the appropriate scholarship applications must be submitted before April 1.

 

NonResident transfer student Merit

Available to:

Nonresident transfer students with a GPA of 3.8 or higher. Applicants must have completed a two-year college associate degree program or its equivalent (in quarter or semester hours) in a state contiguous to Utah.

Application:

 The admissions process must be complete and the online Application for Transfer Student Scholarships  along with the University of Utah Recommendation  form must be submitted by April 1.

Value:

Resident-portion tuition (fees not included). The recipient pays nonresident portion of the tuition cost.  The scholarship is normally awarded for one year, but the student may reapply.

Transfer Leadership Scholarships

Resident transfer Leadership

Available to:

Transfer students with associate degrees, or the equivalent in semester hours, from a Utah two-year college.  Applicants must have a 3.0 or higher GPA and demonstrate outstanding leadership abilities, activity involvement, and achievements.

Application:

Complete the University of Utah admissions process and submit the online Application for Transfer Student Scholarships  before April 1.

 In Addition:

- Submit a one-page essay in which you describe those of your  experiences which will help you make a contribution to the   University of Utah.

- Submit one recommendation from either a teacher,   counselor, or advisor.  You may use the   University of Utah Recommendation Form provided.

Nonresident Transfer Leadership

Available to:

Nonresident transfer students with outstanding leadership abilities, activities and achievements, with a 3.0 or higher GPA.

Application:

The admissions process must be complete, and the online Application for Transfer Student Scholarships, the online essay, in which you describe those of your experiences which will help you make a contribution to the University of Utah, and online University of Utah Recommendation must be submitted by April 1.

Transfer Diversity Scholarships

The admissions process must be completed along with

the onlineApplication for Transfer Student Scholarships .  Also, submit a online University of Utah Recommendation Form along with a one-page essay, in which you illustrate your geographical, ethnic and/or cultural background, and how it will contribute to an educationally diverse experience for students at the University of Utah at large. The essay should include the challenges you have faced in preparing yourself for college.

Transfer Scholarships Offered by Colleges and Departments

Application:

Apply directly to the department of your major. Unless instructed other­wise, submit the online Application for Departmental Scholarships, college transcripts, and three letters of recommendation directly to the department by the appropriate application deadline.

Value:

Resident tuition for two semesters.

Deadline:

Refer to individual departmental listings for special application requirements and deadlines (which vary between January and March).

Note:

Students may receive only one tuition waiver scholarship sponsored by the University of Utah.  If you are awarded more than one such scholarship, you must indicate a preference for one and decline all others.

General:

No departmental tuition waivers are available to nonresident students.  However, some departments may consider nonresident students for cash scholarships. Please check individual college/department listings. See below links.

Transfer Need and Other Scholarships

Some scholarships are available to students who qualify on the basis of need as determined by the Federal Processor.  Entering freshmen and transfer students, and continuing students (Utah resident or nonresident), may apply for these scholarships by submitting the online Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) over the Web at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Also, complete and submit the online Application for Scholarships Based on Financial Need  to the University of Utah Financial Aid and Scholarships Office.

Scholarships in this section have special requirements and different deadlines. All qualified students are encouraged to apply.
