Groups Schedule - Fall 2009

Strengthening Self-Esteem
Monday 3:00-4:30 (Julie Goudie-Nice, Natalie Lecy, Genna Speno)

Do you struggle with appropriate self assertion? Have you had concerns surrounding your self-esteem and self-confidence? If so, then join the Strengthening Self Esteem Group! This group will cover topics such as origins of self-esteem, family/societal/cultural influences, emotional expression, interpersonal boundaries and ways to develop healthier self-esteem. Group members will share their experiences with people who have similar issues, have opportunities to learn from others, and discuss methods that have helped them become stronger while gaining support.

Surviving and Succeeding in Graduate School
Tuesday 2:00 – 3:30 (Frances Harris, Andrea Knestel)

This group is for graduate students who are working on their Master’s Theses and Doctoral Dissertations and for students who are pursuing professional degrees such as law, business administration, etc. Participants from a variety of academic disciplines share research and writing strategies, set personal goals, and give/receive social and emotional support.

LGBTQ2
Tuesday 3:00 – 4:30 (Ryan Randall, Andrew Reichert)

Speak “Out” Loud! This LGBTQ group will focus on a wide spectrum of mental health and life issues that individuals who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or questioning sexuality, face each day. Confidentiality and respect will be emphasized and requested of all attending group members.

Anxiety: Mind-Body Approaches
Wednesday 2:30 – 4:00 (Jared Neslen)

This is a group that teaches participants mind-body strategies for managing and coping with anxiety. Strategies include meditation, mindfulness, changing thought patterns, yoga stretching, breathing and interpersonal support. This is a time-limited group and will close after the second session.

Creating Yourself: A General Support Group
Wednesday 3:00 - 4:30 (Cindy Harling, Jessica Elder)

This group is often the treatment of choice for people who experience troubled relationships, loneliness, depression, grief/loss, and low self-esteem. Group offer a safe environment in which to identify and explore feelings, give and receive support/feedback, practice new, healthier ways of relating to others, and feel less lonely or isolated.

Recovery: It's Not Just For Quitters
Wednesday 3:00 – 4:30 (Karen Cone-Uemura, Courtney Chambless)

This Group provides a supportive atmosphere in which people struggling with substance use issues can explore ways to cut down or eliminate alcohol and/or drug use. You do not have to be abstinent to attend.

Relating to Self and Others
Thursday 3:00 – 4:30 (Riddhi Sandil, Erin Winterrowd)

A group for women struggling to find a place in the world. This group aims to help women through empowerment, examining interpersonal relationships, and connecting with other women.
