Join the Bend-in-the-River team!

Bend-in-the-River is looking for students with a passion for connecting people with the natural world. At the Bend these connections happen via an urban natural area that is open to the public, through educational outreach for all ages, and through our vibrant volunteer program.

Bend-in-the-River is offering a variety of ways to join a dynamic team that is making strides in Salt Lake City’s urban nature scene:

INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNTIES

Ecological Restoration Intern

You have an interest in public land management and native plant ecology. You are also not afraid to get dirty! Larger projects include developing fire restoration and weed management plans for both upland and riparian settings. Research on plants native to this particular area and coordination with partnering agencies play a role in this position. You would find yourself working both on campus and at the Bend-in-the-River site. Other field trips and outside meetings may be included.

Environmental Education Intern

You are dedicated to connecting folks of all ages to their natural world via experiential learning and environmental interpretation. Creating lesson plans incorporating Utah’s core curriculum and implementing these lessons constitute a large part of this position. Nonformal programs for after school and summer programs along with service-learning opportunities add variety to lesson and activity planning. Finally, you may assist with both written and in-person environmental interpretation.

Events and Public Relations Intern

You specialize in connecting the public with their natural world and the opportunities it has to offer—in this case, the Bend’s programming and events. You will exercise your writing and graphics by creating a variety of written materials, flyers, website content, and other correspondence. Experience with the web program, Contribute, will help you excel in this endeavor. Also, fluency in other languages, Spanish mostly, is a plus. If you are creative, tenacious, and enjoy the written and spoken word, this is for you!

ALL OF THE ABOVE POSITIONS WILL…

Work with one another and with the Bend program coordinator to help all facets of the Bend succeed. This includes conducting grounds work on site, leading volunteer groups in ecological restoration work, and assisting with planning and implementation of large-scale events. You’ll find that you’ll be exercising your particular area of expertise even during these endeavors.

If any of the above opportunities interest you,

check out these options for joining the Bend team.

NOTE: Internships are NOT required to gain employment at the Bend. If you are looking for a chance to gain valuable experience without the internship, keep reading. One of these positions may fit your needs.
