Project Learning Tree
Grant Makes Plant Cycle Lesson Possible
Thanks to a grant from Project Learning Tree, 2nd grade students at Riley Elementary, a Title I school, had the chance to learn while giving back to their community.
While meeting Utah Core Curriculum standards, students completed a year-long unit starting with learning about the plant cycle, collecting seed, stratifying and planting, and then caring for the plants they grew in the classroom. Funding from PLT covered the cost of building grow light stands and purchasing materials so that students could witness and be a part of the entire plant cycle.
Now, students are planting these mature plants at Bend-in-the-River so that all communities of life may enjoy them.
