The UCAN Serve AmeriCorps program is getting things done in Utah, Colorado, Arizona and New Mexico. UCAN Serve is part of the national AmeriCorps program, initiated by President Clinton and often referred to as the “domestic Peace Corps.” AmeriCorps provides thousands of Americans of all ages and backgrounds with education awards in exchange for community service. Nationally, over 150,000 AmeriCorps members have helped meet the nation’s critical needs in public safety, education, human needs, and the environment.
At the Bennion Center we offer the UCAN Serve Education Awards to our student leaders, America Reads tutors and Bend-in-the-River interns.* How it works is students report service hours to the AmeriCorps Coordinator on a monthly basis over the one calendar year they have to complete their hours. Once they have finished the service hours, the student receives an education award that can be used to pay tuition, repay qualified student loans, or saved for up to seven years to be used for future education expenses.

*If you are interested in the program, students and alumni not involved in Bennion Center programming are occasionally accepted if we have extra spaces available. However, if you really want to become an AmeriCorps member with the Bennion Center, every Spring we accepts new student Service Leaders for all of our programs. Participation in the Bennion Center leadership will be largely beneficial to your acceptance as an AmeriCorps member in our program.
