Nominate Someone for the Chelsea Hale or Dan Wendelboe Community Service Award!Abdi Mohamed Anita Kiteau

Last year, Abdi Mohamed with University Neighborhood Partners received the Chelsea Hale Creative Community Leadership Award and Anita Kiteau, a student at the Bennion Center, received the Dan Wendelboe Continuous Community Service Award.

These two annual service awards recognize outstanding members of our community who exemplify the qualities of leadership and compassion for which the Bennion Center stands.

Nominations are now being accepted for 2008, The deadline for submission is July 28, 2008.

 

Chelsea Hale Creative Community Leadership Award

This award recognizes individuals with vision and understanding of the issues that affect our community, and have demonstrated a value for service through action, accomplishment, respect, integrity, and leadership.

Chelsea Anne Hale was a University of Utah honors student with a passion for serving others. She had volunteered with the Edison School in Kenya as part of a CHOICE expedition, and with the Bennion Center’s Special Olympics. Chelsea passed away in an accident that occurred in January 2001.

Dan Wendelboe Continuous Community Service Award

This award was created to recognize any student, staff, faculty, or alumni of the University of Utah with at least two years involvement with the Bennion Center. Recipient must demonstrate the value of service through commitment, accomplishment, integrity, and respect for others.

Dan Wendelboe, a dedicated volunteer and Nursing student, lost his life in December 1991 in a vehicle accident while transporting medical equipment and supplies to benefit a rehabilitation clinic for the disabled in central Mexico.
