PERSONAL STATEMENT TOPIC IDEAS

The following ideas are offered merely as suggestions and should not limit your own creativity. You may want to elaborate on something noted but not fully explained on your application or cover an entirely different facet of yourself or your experiences.

Try to relate your topic to your desire to study and/or practice law.

  • Background, life experience, or other significant experience that has prepared you for the study of law
  • Special interests
  • Honors and awards
  • Goals
  • Ethnic and/or cultural diversity
  • Reasons for applying to law school
  • How you heard about a particular law school and what made you apply there
  • Activities such as debate, public speaking and writing competitions
  • Extracurricular activities where you held a leadership position and tell what you accomplished
  • Work or community volunteer experience
  • Problems or inconsistencies in your records
  • Special circumstances not noted elsewhere, such as working nearly full time while going to school
  • Describe activities or characteristics that make you an interesting individual
  • "A day in your life"

Preprofessional Advising Office, specializing in premedical, predental and more is located in Bldg. 44, room 206

Preprofessional Advising for prelaw advising is now located in the OSH Bldg. room 256A.

Marriott Library 2nd floor. The West entrance is closed for construction, please use the East entrance. Download a map to our library office.
