Grading Policies
When you apply to law school you will be required to have all your transcripts sent to a central processing service called the Law School Data Assembly Service (LSDAS). They will generate a report for the law schools with a standardized GPA along with other information about your undergraduate records and schools. There are two important differences between the way your GPA is calculated on your U of U transcript and the way your GPA will be calculated by LSDAS.
CR/NC-If a student earns a CR, this will not be included in his or her LSDAS GPA (the same as the U of U policy). However, unlike at the U of U, if a student gets a NC grade, it will be converted by LSDAS into a failing grade or "E". This is true not only for academic courses but also exercise and activity classes, so it is important to avoid receiving NC grades.
REPEATS-Even though the U of U removes the first grade from a student's GPA when a course is repeated, the first grade is still on the transcript. When applying to law school the LSDAS will factor the first grade back into the GPA, so it is important to do your best the first time.
