Language Proficiency Credit
Students who have learned a foreign language in a non-academic setting may earn the right to purchase up to 16 lower-division Special Credit hours through special examination or specified course work.
If you are a native English speaker who knows another language (but are not officially bilingual), you may earn credits for foreign language proficiency if no prior academic credit has been granted for it. You may pursue one of two avenues:
1. Enroll in an approved language course numbered 3060 or higher, fulfill the requirements of the course and receive a B- or better grade.
2. Pass a language proficiency test administered at the University Testing Center, Student Services Bldg., Room 450. The test fee is $75.00.
Please Note: You must petition the Department of Languages and Literature for language proficiency credit prior to enrolling in a class or taking a proficiency examination. There is a charge of $30.00 per credit hour for language credits earned by these methods. Credits are automatically recorded on your transcripts within six weeks of the time of payment.
