ALUMNI LEGACY NONRESIDENT AWARD

Nonresident high school seniors, who will be entering freshmen and nonresident transfer students who matriculate at the University of Utah seeking an undergraduate degree, and who have at least one parent who holds a degree from the University of Utah. Freshmen applicants must be admitted to the University of Utah by February 1st and transfer applicants by April 1st for the upcoming fall semester. Freshmen applicants must be admitted with the current year’s minimum Admission Index. Transfer applicants must be admitted with a minimum transfer GPA of 2.6. Full-time enrollment (12 course hours per semester) is required. |

This award provides for a partial tuition waiver for both entering freshmen and transfer students and, for qualified freshmen students, an additional scholarship. For entering freshmen the duration of this award consists of a maximum of eight semesters or until the student receives a baccalaureate degree, whichever comes first. For entering transfer students the duration of this award consists of a maximum of four semesters, or until the student receives a baccalaureate degree, whichever comes first. The partial tuition waiver consists of an annual benefit of $5,000, during the 2010-2011 academic year ($2,500 per term for the fall and spring semesters). In addition, eligible freshmen students with an Admission Index (AI) of 120 or higher will receive a $4,000 scholarship, during the 2010-2011 academic year ($2,000 per term for the fall and spring semesters). In subsequent years, the value of both the waiver and the scholarship will increase each year, at the same percentage as non-resident tuition increases. |

Renewal: |
To renew the waiver portion of the award, students must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 and complete 24 hours of course work every two semesters of the academic year, namely fall and spring. Grades are reviewed after the second, fourth, and sixth semester of an academic year. To renew the scholarship portion of the award, students must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher.

Special Conditions: |
By state law, students receiving this award as described above, may not count participation in the award program toward the twelve continuous months of in-state residency required to establish Utah resident status for tuition purposes. |
Note: |
Nonresident students of alumni parentage who receive more than one nonresident University of Utah award offer will need to indicate a preference for one award and decline all others.
